Post Graduate Departments of Patna University

Institute of Psychological Research and Service

The Institute of Psychological Research and Services (IPRS) is a post-graduate wing of the Patna University and is functioning since 1945. The objective of the institute is to conduct research and training in the field of Psychology and also provide psychological services to the students, teachers and other members of the society.  The  services  rendered  include vocational  guidance,  family  counseling, marital counseling, psychotherapy to neurotic patients,  and  helping  the  rehabilitation  of people who have undergone social, mental or physical trauma.
Courses  Conducted
The Institute conducts the following two self- financing vocational courses:

Post-graduate  Diploma  in  Clinical Psychology (PGDCP): Students are trained to diagnose people with behavioural problems pertaining to their personal lives and those related to their families and others in the community. Apart from providing theoretical inputs through class lectures, the students are sent under the guidance of a regular faculty
member  to  mental  hospitals  for  practical training  and  participation  in  different programmes. In the recent past, two such hospitals,  the  Sanjivani  Mental  Hospital, Phulwarisarif, Patna and the Ranchi Institute of  Neuro-Psychiatry  &  Allied  Sciences (RINPAS), Kanke, Ranchi have been selected for training. The institute has also attached itself with relevant department of the Patna Medical College and Hospital to diagnose cases and apply psychological tests on patients there.

Post-graduate  Diploma  in  Applied Criminology:
This is a job-oriented course of one year duration. The objective of the course is  to  impart  specialized  knowledge  in Criminology.  Besides  the  psychological dimension of criminal behaviour, the course exposes  its  students  to  other  important dimensions of crime covering law, judicial practices, police administration, rehabilitation methods and the like.

P.G. Diploma in Applied Criminology
