Vice Chancellor's Vision


Our vision is to make Patna University a world class knowledge hub with the support of all stakeholders who sense the belongingness with Patna University. We have imparted knowledge for 100 years and aim to impart for hundreds and hundreds of years. We intend to establish our national and international credentials not only in teaching but also by establishing quality research centre, community service, social accountability and oneness feeling across the country. An educational institute exhibits such magical voices which harness billions of followers and the same temperament and culture activities find scope in our vision. To achieve the vision, we have a goal to bring Patna University within top 20 universities of India in the National Institutional Ranking System by the year of 2020.

Patna University is celebrating its Centenary year 1917 – 2017. On this occasion a souvenir will be released by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Sri Narendra Modi Ji at the Inaugural Function.We appeal to all alumni of Patna University and stakeholders to contribute towards enriching its contents. We request that if you have any important photographs, documents, articles or have information regarding high Gallantry, Civilian, Literary, Academic, Cultural and Sports Awards at National/International levels and remembrances regarding the glorious past of Patna University, kindly send the details by 28th Sept. 2017

Patna University - A Brief Profile


The seventh oldest university in the Indian subcontinent and the first in Bihar, Patna University was founded by an Act of legislature on 1st October 1917. The University was established as an examining body and conducted examinations from matriculation to post graduation. Its jurisdiction mapped Bihar, Orissa and Nepal and for forty years since its inception Patna University was the arbiter of the academic destiny of these territories. The Patna University Act, 1951, which received the assent of the Governor on 6th July 1951, was passed with a view to establishing a Teaching and Residential University at Patna. The Act defines that the purpose and powers of the university shall be to provide instruction to such branches of learning as the University may think fit including professional studies and .........
